On this website we can see some graphs of values on the pollutants of Eixample, Barcelona. In addition, we will analyze them and draw conclusions about their results.
In these graphs we can see the daily and hourly averages of each pollutant from 1996 to 2023 in Eixample, Barcelona.
As we can see in these two graphs, the PM2.5 pollutant has been controlled since the end of 2023, and as we can deduce these pollutants come from the largest road in Barcelona, which is "the diagonal" and also comes from the port from Barcelona.
These two graphs represent the activity of the pollutant PM10, as we can see its activity has been reducing over time and leaving 2020 (quarantine time) with the least activity. Furthermore we can appreciate that this pollutant comes from the south west, which means that it could come from busy areas of Barcelona (Hospitals, markets, universities, etc.)
In these two graphs we can draw the conclusion that the NO2 pollutant is caused by human activity (driving cars, public transport, etc.), since this pollutant began to be studied in 1996 and never had values as low as in 2020, which was the time of quarantine. With the wind graph you can see the same thing as the other pollutants, they come mostly from the same area.
The SO2 pollutant originates due to the combustion of fossil fuels, which means that it is produced by human activity. This pollutant has been controlled since 2002 and the results have been improving. We can highlight the highest activity in the month of february 2007 and we can say that since 2018 their activity levels have been decreasing thanks to new government laws against climate change, with 2020 standing out as the year with the least activity. A big part of its activity comes from the port of Barcelona due to the big ammount of ships that goes to it.
NO is a pollutant present in all cities, traffic constitutes the majority of the activity. It has been studied since 1996 and since then the numbers have been reducing (creating laws which are based on how polluting each vehicle is and not allowing them to enter the city at certain times). We can see that during the last three years (2020-2023) the daily averages have been reducing thanks to the quarantine and the popularization of hybrid and electric cars. Also the main activity of this pollutant comes from the important roads like "la diagonal", hospitals or the port of Barcelona.
The O3 pollutant is a pollutant that has been registered since 1996, whose activity is based on industries and vehicles. Previously, during the nineties and two thousand, its activity was lower than the current one, so the year 2023 is the year with the most activity recorded. A great curiosity is that this pollutant only has a large percentage of activity during working hours (10:00AM -22:00PM). As the others pollutants the main activity comes from the important roads and the port of Barcelona.
NOX is a pollutant present in the activity of fuel cream (automobiles, power plants, etc.) and has been recorded since 2011, which was the year with the most activity recorded, luckily over the years it has been has been reducing its activity
